When comes to eating "cheng", the kopitiam near to Bishop Gate at Carpenter Street is always the best choice. I went there to have my lunch yesterday as I have longer lunch break.
Why? Firstly, it's not easy to get a parking space at Carpenter Street. Secondly, this place is always packed with the locals and tourists. Thirdly, the seats are limited.
Waiting for the food hungrily
So, whenever you want to eat the "cheng" at this kopitiam, be prepared to (based on my own experiences):
- stand near to people who have finished or almost finished their food so that you can quickly grab the seats.
- ask people if can share table with them.
- Wait for your table to be cleaned and place your drinks order to the lady I circle in blue.
- sit and wait passionately for the guy I circle in red to place the utensils on your table and take your order (this is the way they are doing it, so don't keh kiang and approach him to give your order, he will refuse it).
- wait for the food to be served
The "cheng" usually comes with 3 layer meat, minced meat, fish cakes, fish balls, prawns and various type of pig spare parts boiled with salted vegetable and seaweed. With the recommendations from my other colleague, we order the O Cho Mee (kolo mee with black vinegar) and it turns out pretty nice too.

Oh ya, besides the "cheng" and the kolo mee, it is also worth to try out their Teh C Peng too.
