Happy Niu Year !!!!

It's been a long long while since my last post, I thought my blog will be abandoned but still I can see many people dropped in to say 'hi', that's very touching and encouraging. With that, Oren want to give a big thanks to you all, muaks!

Season To Eat Bak Zhang

Two more days will be Bak Zhang Day. A lot of hawkers start selling bak zhang, so it's not very hard to get it now. The variation of bak zhang also getting more and more, namely sambal bak zhang, yam bak zhang, salted egg bak zhang, .etc.


However, bak zhang nowadays is not cheap though, 1 biji of bak zhang can sell up to RM2 - 3 (can pay for 1 bowl of kolo mee =S), gulp ~

Aaa ... but then I like to eat bak zhang waa, so what to do? =\

Whisper: Most of participants park their cars at the parking space near Jubilee Ground during the procession. Unfortunately, some cars tyres were get stolen, sigh! sigh! sigh!

I guess this is the first time I walk for so long distance in Kuching (excluding shopping). Kenopi and I had joined the 1st Christmas Carolling Parade organised by Methodist Church in Kuching last Saturday. We were told to assemble at Jubilee Ground by 5:30 PM.

By the time I reached there, it was quite crowded already. All the participants were grouped according to their churches.

We saw everyone was so busy to get ready for the procession. I didn't realise that we have to hold so many things in our hands, balloon, candle, lyrics ... and ... and ... I want to take photo gok ler ... eww ... imagine how busy I'm =P

We had prayer before the procession started. Then, we lit our candle and start moving. Before we walked too far, most of us started to adjust our candle liao. Due to the heat, our plastic containers started to melt. At the end of the procession, most of our containers were out of shape. Could be the candles given to us are too big?

God blessed that the weather was pretty good thorough the procession, except a drizzling rain when we were close to the end point. However, that doesn't stop us from moving on.

Afterthat, we have prize giving ceremony and thanksgiving prayer before we dismissed.

This Year Christmas Is Gonna Be A Special One

Whisper: Various sources say that Boulevard is going to open tomorrow, as a typical Kuchian, my instinct tells me that area will be crowded, so, beware of the traffic there [whistle]

Christmas atmosphere in Kuching is always rather quite except some commercials effects from the Christmas sales. However, for me, this year is going to be a special one. Why?

Firstly, I'll be baptised on this coming Christmas. ^___^

Secondly, there'll be a Christmas Carolling Parade this coming Saturday (22nd December 2007) evening, organised by Methodist Church in Kuching. After living in Kuching for 20s year, this is the first Christmas parade in town, OMG! (I know every year there will be Christmas parade in Sibu and I seen it when I was in Sibu that time)

Something Different at Ramadan Bazar

Every year, Muslims will have one month fasting period according to their Islamic calendar. They will fast from dawn till sunset. **Salute** During this period, there will always be some Ramadan Bazars appear in Miaw Miaw Land. Most of the Muslims will shop the food there and bring home to eat when they are breaking their fast.

I used to visit the Ramadan Bazar at Satok during Ramadan and always come home with full handed of food. However, I have not been there for the past few years. I don't know why, maybe I'm too laaaazy to drive to Satok though I know there are a lot of tempting food congregate over there. Maybe it's also because the food is almost the same at every stall, just the matter which stall taste nicer.

Normally at this type of bazar, it's not very hard to find a wide variety of local delight in Miaw Miaw Land. The commonly seen dishes are nasi briyani, satey, umai, lekor, kuih, kebab, roasted chicken, .etc.

This year, maybe I crave for 'sinful' food too long that I willing to make an effort to Ramadan Bazar at Satok. =P

When I walk in to the bazar, I can smell different type of food aroma flying in the air. Different scene of food also come into my vision. It's smokey too, as the hawkers panggang the satay on the spot.

Different type of soup: sup tomyam, sup su'uun, sup power, sup tendon, sup pari-pari, sup ayam cendawan

As I stroll along the food stall, a few food stalls draw my attention. I noticed there are even food stalls that sell ang ku kuih and bak zhang. Frankly say, this is my first time seeing Chinese traditional food sold at Ramadan Bazar.

Apart from that, there is this leng cai making cotton candy there. We are attracted by the way he roll the cotton candy. He is very sporting and willing to let us take the shot while he is making the cotton candy. And hor, he gave us a free cotton candy before we left the spot, he is so kind! ^_______^

At the end of food shopping, I still end up with full handed of food. Sigh, I thought I'm clever enough this time just to bring certain amount of money. So that, I can limit myself from over buying...but you see.... =______=

Jelly Mooncake

Got it from Inter-Culture Mooncake Festival at Carpenter Street, RM4.00

I was sick over the mooncake festival this week, haizzz.... That also mean I can't take any hotty food lor including baked mooncake. However, thanks to whoever has invented this jelly mooncake, that I still can enjoy mooncake, hiak!

The green tea filling is very smooth and taste good!

Memoirs of Mid-Autumn Festival

Today is the 15th day of the 8th month of Lunar calendar, this is the day which Chinese celebrates Mid-Autumn Festival. During this celebration, Chinese kids like to carry brightly lit lantern under the fullmoon light. I used to do that with the kids in my neighbourhood when I was young, it's really really a sweet sweet time!

During my time, most of the lanterns are made of nicely painted paper, an adjustable metal plate to hold the candle and copper wire for you to hang on a stick. The lanterns come in many shapes, there're square, oval, rounded, .etc. Whereas, those lanterns made of plastic with small bulb to light on are not that common and is not cheap.

As time goes by, the lanterns design become more and more keh si than my olden days. During this festival, you can easily find a cartoon lantern than can play music. There're even lantern that can blow bubbles. On top of this, something draw my attention, look at this.

Heck, they even fix LED lights for the paper type of lantern =.= You just need to turn the switch on and off, instead of putting in the candle and light it. I don't how about you, for me I still prefer to light on with candle though you may say LED light is safer for kids.
